Popping Garage Door: Roller and Bracket Service in Tyler, TX

The garage door popped and made excessive noise whenever it opened or closed. During this tune-up in Tyler, TX, we found worn rollers and a loose top-left roller bracket that let the roller bind in the track. As the opener kept pulling, the door twisted and the bottom-left roller came out of its bracket sleeve. We secured both top brackets, replaced all rollers with nylon 11-ball-bearing rollers, lubricated the hinges and torsion springs, and adjusted the opener chain tension. The door operated properly afterward, with much less noise reported.

The Problem

The homeowner reported popping and excessive noise as the garage door went up and down. The door was twisting slightly in the tracks, and the bottom-left roller had come out of its bracket sleeve.

What We Found

The top-left roller bracket didn't have enough bolts to keep it from twisting, allowing the roller to jam in the track. The opener continued pulling against that bind, twisting the door and pulling the bottom roller out of its sleeve. The rollers were also worn past their service life and accounted for most of the noise.

What We Did

We removed and properly secured both top roller brackets so they wouldn't twist and bind. We replaced all the old rollers with maintenance-free nylon 11-ball-bearing garage door rollers. We also lubricated the hinges and torsion springs and adjusted the garage door opener chain tension.

The Result

The door operated properly after the work, with the top brackets secured against twisting and binding. The homeowner reported much less noise. This door needed both worn rollers replaced and the bracket problem corrected—not lubrication alone.
